Project LBZ Part 3

September 2015 Build, Duramax Jeffrey V. Shirts

Where We Are

We hadn’t tested the truck to know exactly how it performed, but we were positive that we doubled the horsepower. With the truck mostly put back together we took it out for a photo shoot and to finally test drive the vehicle. With the changes to the engine but not to the suspension, tires, or other aspects that affect handling, the responsiveness of the engine, especially the turbos, was impossible to miss. With every slight depression on the pedal the turbos would begin to audibly spool, immediately whistling to everyone in the near vicinity that the truck was no longer stock.

After we dropped the truck back off at the shop, Custom Auto began to strip it down, removing the front and rear bumpers, the headlight and taillights, and the grille. Since the plan for this part of the build was in a bit of flux and most of the engine work was completed, we set our sights on adding a FASS fuel pump and improving the appearance of the truck.

The Titanium Series diesel fuel pump is practically mandatory. The FASS Fuel pump increases the pressure of the fuel line, pushing more diesel through the engine. In addition to increasing the fuel flow and pressure of the system, the FASS fuel pump is also the first filter as well, catching most of the foreign particles and particulates, such as water, dirt, and more.
