Next up on our list was a 2007 Chevy Silverado 2500HD Classic truck that we decided to add an aFe intake, Edge tuner and a MBRP 5-inch exhaust to. We had our stock truck all picked out, now we just needed to find another quality diesel shop to do the work. This time we went with Moonlight Diesel in Logan, Utah. Owner Terry Thain has continued to grow his reputation in northern Utah to the point where he’s had to expand into a larger shop, yet again.
This round of installs recorded the largest gain in power and torque, based on our before and after numbers. The stock Chevy started at 212 hp and 499.8 lbs./ft of torque. Improving the air flow is a key factor in upgrading your efficiency and that’s why we started with an aFe intake. The Magnum FORCE PRO 5R Stage-2 Intake System for 6.6L Chevy trucks out-flows a factory intake by 71 percent, according to the manufacturer.
The stock 3.5-inch exhaust was then removed by the techs at Moonlight Diesel and replaced with the beefy 5-inch exhaust from MBRP. The all-black exhaust instantly gave credibility to this truck and it left those in the shop making predictions on how much power this truck was going to gain when the build was done.
For the tuner, the right fit for this build was one from Edge Products. The Edge Evolution CTS has a lot of great features including the in-cab monitor and the digital gauge display is a full-color, high-resolution 4.3-inch touch screen unit. The CTS has all the features of a CS but also comes equipped with a video-in port allowing users to connect to Edge’s state-of-the-art back-up camera that is sold separately, or any compatible off-the-shelf backup camera or video source.
