Well Dressed
For the design of the Honey Badger, we really wanted the truck the stand out from the crowd of other diesel trucks. We wanted it to be aggressive and intimidating, yet we wanted it to lend itself well to being a daily driver.
We first started by adding bed bars from Go Rhino!, which, with its black powdercoat finish, is quite a unique sight for a dually. We also added GoRhino!’s 6-inch O.E. Xtreme Sidebars that are also powdercoated and fit perfectly with the desired look of the truck.
Next, we added black powdercoated front and rear bumpers from Buckstop. Its Outback Bumpers look really good on the Honey Badger, helping give it a wider profile. Custom Auto in Idaho Falls, Idaho, helped us with the installation and remarked that it was one of the best-built bumpers they have ever installed.
For lights, we went to AnzoUSA because of their extensive collection for older trucks like the Honey Badger. We replaced the old dome, dually and tail lights with new smoked lens LED units. We also replaced the old dingy headlights with slick-looking smoked lens projector headlights.
For wheels we went with KMC Wheels’ 17-inch XD766 Rockstar matte black wheels. Wrapped around those we went with aggressive-looking Wildpeak LT245/70R17 rubber from Falken Tire.
The last step was to do something about the faded and dull-looking paint. The hood especially looked a little rough after years of being left in the sun and unprotected from the other elements. The rocker panels had already been sprayed black at Custom Auto so Searle thought coating the rest of his truck yellow would be the best way to complete it.
“When it was being sprayed I was having second thoughts on the bright yellow color, “ admits Searle. “But once I saw the final product I knew I had made the right call.”
As you can see from the pictures, we believe we succeeded in creating a truck that will never fail to capture double takes and steal second looks.
