Ford built more than 2 million 7.3L Power Strokes, which is more than Chevrolet, GMC and Dodge diesels combined. Throughout its nine years of production, the 7.3L continued to be a leader and contender in the light duty diesel market.
While Ford has since moved on to quieter, more powerful and emission-friendly power plants, the 7.3L Power Stroke aftermarket is still alive and well. In that first issue we described our install of a new aFe Stage II cold air intake along with a 5-inch turbo back exhaust system from Hypermax Engineering and a complete set of gauges from Autometer.
In our second installment of PSD Resurrection (April 2009), we upgraded the worn out factory injectors with an aftermarket Stage II single shot injector combo from Hypermax Engineering and improved airflow with the addition of Hypermax's H2E turbo system. We also began the cosmetic upgrades with a newer 2005 Ford Super Duty front clip conversion that included a new bumper, grille and set of headlights. We also swapped out the factory 16-inch steel wheels with a sportier 20-inch wheel and tire combo. At that point our truck was up into the 380 hp range, but there were still some aftermarket parts we could use to further fine tune our Power Stroke's potential.
