Stage 5 Fuel and Air

Published in the September 2006 Issue June 2009

CP3

The second step to increasing our fuel volume is to modify our CP3 injection pump. We took our factory pump to Industrial Injection, where they modified the pump to output 30 percent more fuel. We also added their dual feed line, which adds a secondary fuel supply line from the injection pump to the common rail. These modifications to the fuel pump and common rail will keep us from draining the common rail under heavy fueling conditions. We probably would have been fine if just adding the 90 hp injectors, but along with the injectors, we will also be testing some aggressive fueling software. We should also see increased throttle response because the modified CP3 will recover rail pressure more quickly than a stock pump.
