Project TowMax: Part 2

Gotta Look Good

As for the exterior of the truck, we wanted to keep things pretty simple, all things considered, and Travis agreed. We went with Recon for the headlights, taillights, and 3rd brake light, all of which are smoked LEDs. Roll-N-Lock provided the tonneau cover, which is a great addition to the truck. There are also WeatherTech vent guards and a Rigid Industries grille and integrated 30-inch curved light bar. All told, there’s not a ton of exterior work. “We didn’t do a whole lot, just to keep it pretty plain and simple,” Travis says. “Sometimes, less is more, as far as that goes.” Except for the wrap, that is.

We couldn’t be happier with how the wrap turned out. I know I said we weren’t going for super over-the-top on the truck’s exterior, but we needed to have a little bit of flash. Plus, the company Travis worked with to design the wrap couldn’t have done a better job. A local company called Bri Designs in nearby Oakland, ME, both designed the wrap and installed it. Travis worked closely with them to make sure it fit his vision for the truck. “I was really concerned about doing it. I knew I had to have it, but I didn’t want to cross the line of being that truck that’s like, ‘Ugh, what did he do to that thing?’ We worked quite a bit with Brian at Bri Designs and I think the wrap looks extravagant. It’s just the right amount. I think it came out great.”

Indeed it did! Once everything was put together, Travis worked with Jonathan Castleheart at Higher Power Performance in Tennessee to do the truck’s tuning. He says, “On the big tune right now, it’s in the 800s. It’s pretty aggressive! We’re going to tune it down a little bit for towing. I think it’ll run our tow tune in the mid-600s.” Sounds like we hit exactly the mark we were shooting for! Travis is quick to point out that the RevMax transmission is performing like a champ. Transmission tuning is absolutely critical to making a built transmission hold up to the kinds of stress this truck will experience.
