Back From the Past

The classic Chevy C20

October 2014 Feature Michael Deulley

Modern Appeal

With much of the body and frame work complete, Hoover then decided to add 5-inch chrome stacks to the pickup, reasoning that a modern truck needed a little extra modern appeal. The truck was once again looked over and when the body refinishing was up to expectations, Hoover took the C20 to his brother, who works at a local GM dealership and took the old Chevy in for a paint makeover.

“While my brother had the body in for paint, my dad and I began to install a 6-inch lift to allow room for the 37-inch tires that we were putting on,” says Hoover. “We also had to add 2-inches of body lift to help the truck clear the larger T-case.”

With the truck sporting an intimidating amount of lift, Sidewinder electric drop steps were installed to make the ascent to the steering wheel a bit easier to accomplish. After accessing the C20 build from start to its present point, Hoover decided that, with so much put into it that he should see the build through completely. A new set of brakes, lights, fuel lines and many other additions were included to the build list to ensure that it would be done correctly and completely. With everything that needed to convert the old gas pickup to a Duramax diesel masterpiece, confusion and situation adaptation set in quickly.
