The third day began around 5 a.m. when Hayward loaded his truck with a new suspension kit, wheels, tires, exhaust and some tools and headed to the Fort Carson Auto Craft Shop. He had rented a lift bay for two days and called up a few more of his Army buddies and together they commenced to rip, grind, drill and weld. First up they installed a BDS 8-inch Long Arm suspension lift kit with Fox 2.0 shocks.
"The suspension was a ton of work because we had to drop the transfer case and install an index ring that re-clocked the transfer lower to correct drive shaft angles due to the large lift," says Hayward. "We installed a front driveshaft spacer and a rear drive shaft carrier bearing drop kit. We then swapped out the front brake lines for stainless steel ones."
While they had the transmission cross member off the truck they went ahead and installed the Flo~Pro 5-inch stainless
steel Turbo Back DPF Delete exhaust with a stainless steel muffler and 6-inch stainless tip. Later he would end up swapping out this tip for a black powder coated one.
