The turbo was a great fit for the Honey Badger. The 62mm turbo is rated for up to 470 hp, perfect for being a daily driver as that is what this particular turbo is known for.

“It’s not too big of a turbo [and] it’s not too small of a turbo,” says Ryan. “It’s just that everything is tied in right.”

With higher power demands of the chip, exhaust and revamped fuel system, getting more air into the cylinders was key for making sure everything ran the best that it could.

Installation of the turbo was fairly smooth, which can be attributed to Ryan’s years of experience working on Cummins.

Because the turbo is mounted on the exhaust side of the engine, the bolts are often rusted in. Having soaked it well with some rust penetrant and let it sit for about 20 minutes, they came right out. The exhaust was also something that they had to fight a little to get it out.

“For the average guy trying to put a turbo on the engine, it is possible to do it,” says Ryan. “It is pretty much straightforward how they go on and you can’t put them on backwards. You probably need to allot yourself about four hours for your first turbo install.”
