A Focus On Fuel
Once we figured out how to get the power to the ground, we went back to RKL Diesel to focus on making sure there was enough fuel to deliver that power.
“Tying everything together with the chip, intake and exhaust, the truck is going to demand more fuel,” says Ryan.
This particular part is quite important because if you are not able to get enough fuel to things such as the lift pump, the injector pump or nozzles, you run the risk of damaging engine components. And when you consider that most warranties are often voided due to insufficient fueling, extra consideration definitely needs to be given.
Most importantly though, we wanted the Honey Badger to run hard and run well.
To get started on this side of the project, we went with Dynamite Diesel Performance’s 50hp injector nozzles. Ryan’s confidence with this company led to our decision to go with them.
“I have never had a problem in all the years that I have done diesel work with Dynamite’s products,” says Ryan.
Another part that we liked about the nozzles is that they run really clean. What this means is a decrease in smoke, which a dirty nozzle can often exacerbate.
“There are some nozzles out there that are just really dirty and smoke real bad and make the truck run inconsistently,” Ryan adds. “The guys at Dynamite know how to fine tune the nozzle so they run really clean and very smooth.”
We also love the added benefit of cooler EGTs and the increase in fuel mileage. That is, of course, if we can keep our foot out of it.
Installation for this went quite smooth with no issues coming up during the work. The process, though, is slightly more on the technical side. Ryan notes that the installation is more suited for the intermediate mechanic. If you can easily interpret technical directs that you might find online, you should be good to go, acknowledges Ryan.
