BD Power
We devoted an entire series just on upgrades from BD Diesel Performance as we continued to set the foundation on our build. Working with Powerlabs Diesel once again, we pulled the stock turbo and it wouldn't be the last time we'd have to go deep to the back of the engine compartment to take it out.
We took these steps to improve the existing turbo, knowing in advance that we'd end up upgrading the turbo down the road. We did this so readers would have an option if a new turbo wasn't quite in the budget. Getting started we changed out the compressor wheel on the turbo. The 6TP38 compressor wheel from BD Power has an extra fin and is just an overall better aftermarket design than the stock version. Before we put the turbo back in we removed the stock wastegate and replaced it with a new one from BD Power. With the shorter rod on the new wastegate you get less push, so this is a great upgrade to keep it consistent. With just these two upgrades, we have less lag and more boost, which of course is why we wanted to do it.
