Recapping our 7.3L project truck

Transmission

When it comes to rebuilding transmissions-especially when you're looking to beef them up so they'll withstand added power-Adrenaline Performance in Shelley, Idaho, is the place to go. Truck owners have journeyed two days and farther just to have shop owner Cam Hulse work on their trucks. So we didn't hesitate for a second when it came time to rebuild our stock transmission.

All the parts were pressure washed at 140-degrees and cleaned after the transmission was completely torn apart. We were anxious to get some dramatic before and after photos showing the worn old parts and most likely a burned up clutch plate or two. Turns out the stock tranny still had plenty of miles left in her, which was kind of shock considering most transmissions start needing work around the 120 mile mark. Even the main gears hardly showed any wear, but this was an upgrade that needed to be made regardless.

Besides adding all new parts, seals, etc., Cam was also able to add more clutch plates than were included with the factory-built stock transmission.

The transmission almost looked too nice to stuff back into the truck when it was all done and cleaned up. We're guessing it didn't look this good the day it was originally built, which according to the number that was on the transmission was October 25, 2001.
