First Step
Getting started, we dropped the old transmission out; I'm always amazed at how quick and easy the pros make it look. Colby was on it immediately and for the most part getting it out was routine. The stock converter didn't have a drain plug, which Colby noted as different, but you don't really need one, it just makes it easier when pulling the transmission.
When we got it out it was filthy and with these 7.3Ls there seems to always be some type of oil leak. In fact, oil had puddled up a little on top of it and we joked that it looked like a 10-year-old tranny. Colby completely removed the transmission and then wheeled it over to his brother Cam who was patiently waiting for it. When it comes to rebuilding transmissions, Cam has a solid reputation for being one of the best in the business. He had all the new parts laid out like a surgeon's table, which is how he likes it. He's very organized and detail-oriented and keeps a clean and orderly shop.
