PSD Resurrection Part III

From Dedicated Work Truck to Hard Core Street Truck

Published in the June 2009 Issue June 2009

Welcome back our Ford 7.3L Power Stroke build-up, turning a $3500 junker work truck into a nasty little street truck.

We introduced this truck two issues back, in Volume 3, Issue 1 of Diesel Tech. The main goal was to show our readers what aftermarket parts were out there still for the 7.3L Power Stroke power plant, all while turning this truck from you basic run-of-the-mill XL model F250 work truck into a fun daily driver that will run hard at the drag strip.

In that first issue we installed a full set of Autometer gauges, an AFE Stage II intake system and a turbo back 5-inch exhaust system from Hypermax Engineering. In our last issue, we continued the build with some worked-over Stage II injectors and a H2E turbocharger system, again, all Hypermax Engineering pieces. We also upgraded the grille, bumper and headlights with some take-off parts from a 2005 Super Duty. We've lowered the rear suspension some and added big rolling 20s wrapped around some nice street tires.

This go around we wanted to get the appearance changed up-let's get that mean and nasty street look going. We've already got the horsepower under the hood, but it still needed that aggressive muscle truck style. We're going to be doing the fuel system upgrades this time around as well, but we'll get to that in a bit.
