POWER OUTPUT
Now the fun part. From the factory GM has really got these new LMM motors dialed in. Right off the showroom floor these trucks can produce upwards of 300 hp to the tires. Pretty respectable for OEM. But with the addition of 37-inch tires and the stock gearing remaining inside those differentials, the truck got a little sluggish.
Brendle promised himself the truck would remain stock-he had too many high horsepower projects underway already. But with that Diesel Addict-coded DNA running through every vein in his body he couldn't take it much longer. The truck needed horsepower and it needed it quick.
To start things off an AEM Brute Force intake system was bolted on to ensure the 6.6L diesel would receive all the air it could handle. The AEM intake not only flows better than stock, it looks better under the hood and filters better as well. With the motor inhaling better, something had to be done about exhaling. Diamond Eye exhaust was called and its complete 5-inch exhaust system was installed and finished off with a black, powdercoated, 6-inch tip from RBP.
The fuel system from the factory works rather well on these trucks but with dreams of making 600-plus horsepower Brendle knew some issues would need to be addressed. An AirDog fuel and air separation system was installed. The addition of the AirDog 150 will help keep the CP3 happy and eliminate air in the fuel.
With the basic intake and exhaust modifications done, it was time to look at some programming options. The newer emissions motors are plagued with an endless amount of monitoring systems, sensors and programming issues to keep these trucks from making major horsepower. After some time, the aftermarket companies figured things out and Brendle has been able to try a few different tuners out.
