John Hofstetter's Truck Next Door

December 2020 Feature My Truck DT Staff

The owner of this northern New Jersey 24-valve Cummins, named Black Betty, might call it his simple daily driver, but John gives it quite a bit of usage in various walks of life. “I just bought it so parts are coming when my budget allows,” he says. He has done quite a bit to Black Betty already, though. To start off, the truck has a Superlift 5-inch lift kit with Moto Metal 17-inch rims wrapped in Pro Comp Xtreme MT2 35-inch tires. Engine upgrades include a Banks RAM Air intake elbow, a K&N cold air intake and filter, and tuning with an Edge Insight CTS2 monitor. The truck also has a bed net and side steps from BULLY.

In the future, John plans to add quite a bit more to Black Betty, including Quadzilla Adrenaline tuning with a control pod, A/T tires, a FASS pump, and an Industrial Injection Hot Rod VP44 injection pump. “I also plan on adding cosmetics like new headlight housings and that simple stuff,” he adds. “Maybe new wheels if I can afford them.” In addition to daily driving, the truck as it is now is used for mild trailer hauling, hauling motorized toys, scrap work, and farm work. “This was my childhood dream truck,” he says. “I caught a good one, low miles and well-kept. I love the sound of the turbo spooling. It brings out the kid in me.”
