Traction Tires

December 2018 Round Up, Feature

Not all roads are paved. Come to think of it, not all roads are roads. Whether you are rolling down a six-lane freeway or picking your way up a rocky ridge, you want your vehicle to be connected to the ground in the best possible way.

The editors of Diesel Tech Magazine have identified some of the more popular tires that will not only get you down the road, but over the mountains, through the snow and across every other possible road condition.

Cooper Discoverer AT34S

The new Cooper Discoverer AT34S sets the standard in all-weather, all-terrain performance. The new Discoverer AT34S with Adaptive-Traction Technology leads the pack in all-weather performance across multiple measures, and is also severe-weather rated.

With improved wet weather performance, snow performance, fuel economy and a best-in-class mileage warranty of 65,000 miles, the new Discoverer AT34S is the tire for consistently powerful performance.

Compared to other leading all-terrain tires, the AT34S stops on average 20 feet shorter on snow. These tires also are shown to accelerate 15 percent faster on snow.

Cooper Discoverer A/Tw

The Cooper Discoverer A/Tw truck tire is an all-terrain, all-season tire designed to perform well on the highway or off, and features enhanced snow capabilities. The tread design helps to prevent stone retention, while grooves in the tire improve loose surface traction.

For those looking for a truck tire with excellent winter performance, the Discoverer A/Tw  is a true all-season performer.  The tire is severe weather rated, featuring Snowgroove 2.0 Technology from Cooper, which helps to increase the contact surface area and locks snow into the grooves, generating snow-on-snow traction. The Discoverer A/Tw also features a 50,000 mile warranty.

Nitto Exo Grapplers

The Exo Grappler AWT is built to meet the all-weather demands of off-road truck enthusiasts. Featuring chip resistant all-weather compound, three-ply sidewall construction, and large, thick sidewall lugs, the Exo Grappler AWT provides armor for the elements.

The Exo Grapple AWT is rated with the 3-peak mountain snowflake for winter driving conditions. The sipes and large lateral grooves provide biting edges as well as water and snow/slush evacuation. These tread features are combined with a new durable compound that allows for traction in freezing temperatures. For additional traction, option TSMI #15 studs can be added for increased winter traction. Whether your journey takes you through off-road trails, gravel or farmland, the Exo Grappler AWT is built for four-seasons of four-wheeling.

 Interco TrXus MT

The TrXus M/T, radial mud terrain tire is Interco’s answer to the need of those who want a smooth, super quiet ride with tough, thick sidewalls with a chip and cut resistant compound.

This tire has more siping than any other mud terrain on the market, which is proven to be almost magical in icy snowy conditions. These same traction features make this tire a serious rock climber. Each TrXus Mud Terrain tire has its individual specifications and is heavier than the original equipment tires of comparable size.

The Interco TrXus M/T is available in a multitude of size configurations and ply ratings including a 10-ply “E” rated, off-road and competition only 37x12.50R17 sticky.

 Michelin LTX A/2

If you’re looking for something that is good off-road and yet will offer solid highway fuel efficiency, Michelin offers the LTX A/T2 tire.

With a 60,000 mile limited warranty, the LTX A/2 optimizes contact patch shape provided by MaxTouch Construction to help deliver extremely long tire life under the toughest conditions.

Tough off-road endurance capability of the Michelin LTX A/T2 tire helps it last at least 35 percent longer on gravel than two leading class competitors. And it delivers a very comfortable ride.

The Michelin Comfort Control Technology uses computer-optimized design and precision manufacturing to offer greatly reduced vibrations and road noise.

Atturo Trail Blade A/T

If you’re looking for a durable all-terrain tire that likes to work and play, the Atturo Trail Blade A/T is for you. The Trail Blade A/T is constructed for truck owners who demand a strong tire with versatile traction capabilities, but at an affordable price level.

Formulated with a durable tread and deep sipes for all-weather performance, the Trail Blade A/T offers true off-road capability with natural highway convenience. It is produced in both metric and LT rated sizes for a variety of trucks.

The LT rated sizes utilize a heavy duty carcass for the hard-duty work trucks. This tire is for a hardworking and ready-to-play driver who demands strength, durability, and all-terrain performance.
