OC Autos also features a full service and repair center, paint and body shop, an audio center, wheels, and tires; everything you could possibly want from a dealership and more can be found under their roof. And as pretty much the only dealership of its kind in California, their service center is open to everyone, not just people who bought a truck from them.
But that’s not the only way Bushra gives back to the community. OC Autos has a couple of programs that aim to help people out. For starters, they offer classes once a quarter (though she wants them to become monthly) that educate people about car maintenance and how to avoid common predatory tactics from car dealers. “In the beginning, my goal was to educate women,” she says. “Anytime I wanted to buy a car, I wanted my husband or my brother or any of my guy friends to come with me because I knew they’d rip me off. I just wanted to change that. I’ve come to realize that it’s not only women that feel that way; there are so many men that feel the same way! So that’s been huge for us, to be able to provide to the community. It’s completely free, no strings attached, nothing. I just really feel good about it. People in the industry thought I was crazy for wasting my time doing such things. Car dealers have a different set of rules in life, I think.”
The other way they give back is with the Relief On Wheels program. The OC Autos team will receive messages on social media about less fortunate families in the area who could really use a new vehicle. They will then pick a family and fix up and donate a vehicle to them. Bushra says, “I have a staff that shares the same vision of just changing things in this industry as a whole.”
Doing It Differently
I asked Bushra if it’s been hard to be a diesel-focused dealership in California, what with the state’s increased scrutiny toward diesels compared to other states. “A lot of our clientele is military and they like the aftermarket parts,” she says. “If it’s not legal, I just don’t do it! Has it hindered things? Probably, but honestly, my answer has always been no.”
She continues, “California is different! But at the same time, we have the best weather, which means these trucks are in the best condition because of that. I have people from all over the nation coming here to buy trucks from us because they are California trucks. They’re not rusty, they haven’t been through the things that other places around the country might have.”
Bushra is incredibly proud of what they’ve been able to accomplish at OC Autos, and things can only get better from here. “We’ve been able to do it with diesel trucks, because they’re a lot of fun. They do so much. People need them for work, for all kinds of things. It’s been a fun ride and we have a lot of exciting things in the works for this year and the next year.” We can’t wait to see what’s next!
