Big Blue Part 5

Light Me

To round out the grille upgrade I decided to get brighter headlights. I figured if the new Royalty Core grille didn't catch some attention, adding HID headlights might. One of the most underrated safety features on your truck is the headlights. As incandescent gave way to halo-gen, halogen is now giving way to HID and Pacific Performance Engineering makes that transition easy with its new HID Headlight kit.

Producing up to 3,200 lumens, PPE's HID Headlight kit makes your truck's headlights three times brighter than the stock halogens, all the while lasting up to 4000 hours, or 10 times longer, than a standard halogen light.

The kit is designed to be installed in only about 15 minutes and requires no splicing or cutting of wires; it just plugs into place. It could probably be installed without removing the batteries, but personally I just like the extra room to work. So we pulled both batteries and swapped out the bulbs. An electrical ballast is a device intended to limit the amount of current in an electric circuit and the PPE kit includes two, one for each side. We mounted each ballast using some self-tapper screws we had on hand and it connects the relay and the bulbs together. The wiring was all neatly tucked away when everything was plugged in and we were good to go.
