Crankcase Ventilation Kit

Of all the upgrades from BD Power, this was the one I was really the most interested in. I've seen plenty of do-it-yourself type owners rig something up on their own, but it never looks clean and it's never as efficient.

The Crankcase Ventilation Kit is designed to aid in reducing the amount of oil found in the charge air cooler, as well as reducing the chance of having a boot blow off. The system will help to increase boot life and charge air cooler effectiveness. Better filtration of the crankcase gas reduces the amount of oil that will be returned to the intake system, which in turn will reduce emissions.

The CCV mounts on a metal plate, bolts up with new bolts and fits perfectly into a tight space. Just looking at it before we installed it I wasn't sure there was enough room, so I was impressed when it all fit nicely. Once mounted, the top has a filter that allows the pressure to escape. The system is great because it's designed to vent of course, but as an added tip, check to make sure you're getting the "blow by" from it after you start your truck up. You should be able to feel a continual amount of blow by, which occurs when some of the gases from the combustion leak past the piston rings (that is, blow by them) to end up inside the crankcase. To check the blow by, it's as simple as putting your hand next to it and with a little bit of a load you should be able to feel the release of pressure. Sometimes when these Crankcase Ventilation Kits are new the spring can be a little too tight and won't let the air escape like it should. A simple adjustment of the spring inside the top cap and you should be good to go if this is the case. A catch can with a release valve is included with this kit and to properly release the oil you just reach in past your front tire and turn the valve. This really is a sweet setup.
