Project LBMC

Stage 4: Transmission

Published in the April 2009 Issue April 2009 Build

Installation:

  1. Remove the stock pan and drain all the fluid from the transmission. (fig. 3)
  2. Remove the TTVA motor from the top of the transmission where the shift linkage connects. (fig. 4)
  3. Disconnect the wiring connectors from the safety neutral switch and the valve body, then remove the safety neutral switch from the transmission.
  4. Disconnect the shift lever
  5. Drop the OEM valve body from the transmission.
  6. The 1st and 2nd gear band strut will be upgraded as part of BD's valve body kit. The BD valve body provides full torque converter lockup in 1st and 2nd gear. This band strut must be stronger in order to withstand the added strain of forcing lockup in 1st and 2nd gears as well as the increased line pressure this valve body will run. (fig. 5 & 6)
  7. Swap the solenoid and sensor from the OEM valve body to the new BD valve body. (fig. 7)
  8. Install the upgraded fluid filter on the valve body (included in the kit). (fig. 8 & 9)
  9. Install the new valve body in the transmission.
  10. Install the BD heavy duty transmission pan. This cast aluminum pan holds an extra quart of fluid to help keep the transmission cool on our `07 truck. It also adds rigidity to the body of the transmission. (fig. 10)
