STEERING

We bought this Dodge as a factory overstock with 92 miles on the odometer. And with stock wheels and tires, the steering was just fine. However, after the addition of the heavy 22.5" Alcoa rims, wheel adapters and 36" tall commercial tires, there was an unacceptable amount of steering wobble and wander as the truck hit bumps and uneven road surfaces. Again, we turned to BD Diesel for some help. We outfitted the LBMC with their Steering Box Stabilizer (SBS). BD designed the SBS for 1994-2008 Dodge trucks. The steering on these trucks has always needed help. The SBS is a brace that ties the frame together on each side of the steering gear. The brace has a plate where a heavy-duty bearing surrounds the sector shaft of the steering gear. This gives the steering gear a more positive connection to the truck's frame, eliminating the wobble and play at the steering gear caused by the larger wheels and tires. The SBS will also give us longer life out of the steering gear. The installation was quick and easy. It took us about 20 minutes to install. The difference on the road is very noticeable. It tightened up the steering wobble and gave the truck more precise steering response.
