Common Problems: Fuel Pressure Regulator

Published in the December 2017 Issue September 2018 Feature Trevor Mason

Now you should have access to the CP3 pump and fuel pressure regulator. The space is still going to be a little bit cramped, so be aware of that. The FPR itself attaches to the CP3 pump with just a couple little Torx screws, which are honestly kind of pain to get out, both because of the tight quarters, but also because they’re Torx screws. Attach the new one, apply O-rings and gaskets to the upper radiator pipe, intake tube, EGR tube, and EGR valve, and reassemble everything you took apart. We took the opportunity to clean some of the piping that we had to remove, since it had been quite some time since it had last been cleaned (if ever).

With that taken care of, most of your pulsing problems should have dissipated. If any still persist, you could look into getting a lift pump, which will definitely solve them, as well as simply providing ample fuel to the engine.
