This is an excellent informative video on how to trail splice a broken winch wire rope if you find yourself in any such situation. Here, Keller McCowen splices a steel cable eye via the Molly Hogan technique. Although I haven't personally performed this repair, it looks like a useful skill to have when you need to use that winch of yours for vehicle recovery. Way to go, Keller!
