TIRES, WHEELS AND LIFT
DEAR DT,
HEY WHAT'S UP? NICE MAGAZINE. I LIKE THE COVER TRUCK ON THE NEW ISSUE (JUNE) AND I SAW WHAT KIND OF TIRES WERE ON IT AND WAS JUST WONDERING WHAT KIND OF WHEELS AND WHAT SIZE THE TIRES WERE ON THIS TRUCK AND IF IT HAD A LIFT AT ALL ON IT.

DEAR DT,
I RECENTLY SAW MY TRUCK IN THE REALITY TRUCKS SECTION OF VOLUME 2 ISSUE 3. I NOTICED THE ISSUE BEFORE THAT ON THE COVER WAS A WHITE 24V DUALLY LIKE MINE, BUT HE HAS ALL TERRAINS ON INSTEAD OF THE 22.5 LIKE I HAVE. I WAS WONDERING IF YOU MIGHT HAVE THE SPECS ON HIS WHEEL/TIRE/SUSPENSION SETUP. YOU GUYS DID AN ARTICLE ON THE TWIN TURBOS FOR THAT TRUCK BUT I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW MORE.

THE WHEELS ON THAT DODGE ARE AMERICAN EAGLE ALLOYS SERIES 058 IN A 16X6. THE TIRES ARE 285/75R16 TOYO OPEN COUNTRY M/TS (WE KNOW, IT'S NOT A RECOMMENDED FITMENT), AND THE TRUCK HAS A 2-INCH LEVELING KIT ON IT WITH AN ADD-A-LEAF IN THE REAR WITH AIR BAGS. -ED.

DEAR DT,
I WOULD LOVE TO HEAR MORE ABOUT HOW TO GET MORE PERFORMANCE OUT OF MY 2008 FORD DIESEL. I CAN'T SEEM TO FIND ANYTHING OUT THERE THAT WILL GIVE ME INFORMATION ON THIS. I REALLY DON'T CARE ABOUT MY WARRANTY. I WANT POWER AND ECONOMY. RIGHT NOW I'M ONLY AVERAGING 11 MILES PER GALLON. I DON'T EVEN GET ON THE ACCELERATOR TRYING TO GET THE BEST MPG POSSIBLE. I WOULD REALLY LIKE TO HEAR ANY GOOD NEWS FROM YOU.

WE'RE IN THE MIDDLE OF A TUNER TEST FOR THE `08 FORD BETWEEN THE EDGE EVOLUTION, DIABLOSPORT PREDATOR, SUPERCHIPS CORTEX AND BULLY DOG PMT. WE'RE FOCUSING ON FUEL ECONOMY IMPROVEMENTS AND DYNO TESTING FOR HORSEPOWER. THE EDGE EVOLUTION GIVES THE 6.4 ABOUT 80 HP AT THE REAR WHEELS ON ITS BEST SETTING. WE'RE DOING THE MPG TESTS ON THE EVOLUTION NOW (GOOD IMPROVEMENTS SO FAR), AND WILL DYNO THE OTHER TUNERS AFTER THAT, BUT WE EXPECT THE OTHER TUNERS TO BE IN THE SAME RANGE FOR HORSEPOWER. WE'VE HEARD THAT SOME OF THESE TUNERS CAN ADD UPWARDS OF 5 MPG, BUT WE HAVEN'T CONFIRMED THAT YET.

IF YOU WANT BIG HORSEPOWER NUMBERS OUT OF YOUR 6.4, SPARTAN DIESEL IS DOING SOME CUSTOM TUNING AND GETTING CLOSE TO 500 RWHP WITH A FEW MINOR MODIFICATIONS. SCT ALSO DOES SOME PRETTY HOT TUNING FOR THAT ENGINE. AN AFTERMARKET INTAKE YIELDS HIGH HORSEPOWER GAINS ON THAT ENGINE, TOO. -ED.

I WAS JUST WONDERING WHERE THEY GOT THE HEADLIGHTS AND WHAT KIND OF HEADLIGHTS THEY ARE THAT WERE ON THE DODGE RAM 3500 THEY USED FOR THE TWIN TURBO TEST IN VOLUME 2, ISSUE 3? THANK YOU VERY MUCH AND THIS MAGAZINE IS GREAT AND VERY INFORMATIONAL.

THE TRUCK WAS FITTED WITH THE LENSES THAT DODGE USED ON ITS "SPORT" MODELS FROM 1999 TO 2002. YOU CAN GET THE PART FROM AN AFTERMARKET PARTS COMPANY, SUCH AS CERTIFIT. BECAUSE THE TRUCK IS A 1998, SOME OF THE BODY BEHIND THE LENSES HAD TO BE TRIMMED TO FIT THE SECOND BULB AND WIRING. WE ALSO USED FOUR BULBS SIMULTANEOUSLY FOR BOTH THE LOW BEAM AND HIGH BEAM SETTINGS, WHICH GAVE US A LOT OF LIGHT. HOWEVER, THE FACTORY LIGHT SWITCH CAN'T HANDLE THE ELECTRICAL LOAD THAT THIS SETUP DRAWS, SO THE LIGHTS WERE WIRED TO RUN OFF OF TWO RELAY SWITCHES. ONE RELAY FOR LOW BEAMS AND ANOTHER FOR HIGH BEAMS. -ED.
