Lucas runs LB Customs in Mountain Lake, MN, and his bread and butter is building custom-built Excursions and six-door Super Duty pickups. He’s even put together a six-door Excursion on occasion. These are no mere restorations, either. Take a look at one of his Excursions and you’d think that Ford had resumed building them with the new 6.7 platform. They look that good. So how did this all start?
His family bought an Excursion right around when they were first available and he says, “It didn’t take long for it to be all modified up.” That planted a seed that would eventually bear fruit, though not for a few years. He was in high school at the time and always had a passion for working on cars, a passion that carried him to college and eventually to opening his own shop in 2005. Still, it’s a far cry going from simply running a shop to taking on full-scale overhauls. What was the impetus for such an undertaking? Good old-fashioned curiosity.
