Get Ready For National Tire Safety Week

May 2016 News, Feature Trevor Mason

Next week is National Tire Safety Week, and to help you take advantage of it, Toyo has released a set of videos to help everyone prepare. The videos cover how to check tire pressure, how to check tire depth, how to inspect wear, and how to read your sidewall. Most of us probably know how to check our tire pressure, but I’ll admit that I’d probably just be guessing if I had to do the others in any meaningful capacity. Plus, it never hurts to check these things out. Sometimes you find out you’ve been doing it wrong all along!

“Your tires are one of your key assets for the safe enjoyment of your vehicle, especially during the holiday travel season,” said Amy Coleman, senior director of marketing, Toyo Tire U.S.A. Corp.  “With the summer months soon approaching, it is wise to check your tires with the help of our new videos or stop by your local tire dealer for a safety check.”

The Rubber Manufacturer’s Association (RMA) is behind National Tire Safety Week, and they’ve partnered with industry partners such as Toyo to help educate the masses. They estimate that only 17 percent of drivers properly check their tire pressure. Underinflated tires can waste up to 1.2 billion gallons of fuel annually, as well as contribute to fatalities and injury. Check those tires!
